Presentación: Buscando nuevos caminos

El viernes 26 de noviembre del 2010 las actrices de Fortaleza de la Mujer Maya presentaron Buscando nuevos caminos, una obra escrita por ellas mismas y que denuncia y expone el fenómeno de la migración por medio de la historia de varias mujeres que salen de sus comunidades en Chiapas en busca del sueño americano. Por medio de los personajes centrales, ilustra la violencia y peligro al que se exponen los migrantes al cruzar la frontera, y plantea la discriminación y la violencia al que las mujeres se enfrentan en cuanto a su derecho a la tierra y sus derechos humanos.

 

On November 26, 2010, the actresses of Fortaleza de la Mujer Maya presented «Seeking New Paths,» a play written by the women themselves that denounces and explores migration via the story of various women who escape from their communities in Chiapas in search of the American dream. Via the main characters, the piece illustrates the violence and danger to which migrants are exposed as the cross the border and also details the discrimination and violence to which women in particular are subjected in regard to their right to land and their fundamental, human rights.

Arte Acción is an interdisciplinary platform located in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas that focuses on developing public performance programming and linking different social groups together in order to promote diverse forms of human development through diverse, continual activities geared towards increasing public awareness, personal reflection and the creation of artistic and political projects. It is a platform first developed with the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics in collaboration with Fortaleza de la Mujer Maya (FOMMA), a theatre troupe of indigenous women. Arte Acción, encompasses public lectures, roundtables, performances, public actions and projections seeking to promote, present and archive performative practices as a social, cultural and political in it's collaboration and research with local, national, and international communities.
